Dr. Terri Parrott, DVM (Clinically Retired)

President of Operations

Dr. Terri Parrott graduated from the University of Florida in 1983 at the age of 24. She has interned at Pet Farm in Miami and worked with Florida wildlife for over 30 years. She has been a visiting professor at University of Miami and Florida Atlantic University, lecturing on avian medicine and surgery. Dr. Parrott has been on the captive wildlife advisory committee for the State of Florida since 1994. She has had special training in captive primate medicine as well as large cats and large reptiles. After owning a practice in South Florida for 17 years, she moved up to central Florida where she has worked for the SPCA of Central Florida, Universal Studios, and Wings of Flight (Natural Encounters) at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  In 2011 she founded St. Charles Veterinary Hospital.

She is both state and federally licensed for rehabilitation of wildlife and is on call for the State of Florida for sick and injured wildlife. Dr. Parrott has been published in many magazines including Bird Talk and Readers Digest, and has written many articles for veterinary medical journals. Additionally, she has been featured on National Geographic for her work with primates, exotics and wildlife.

Since her clinical retirement Dr. Parrott has been an active member of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine admissions program, as well as authoring chapters in several commonly used veterinary textbooks.  She is also busy acting as a consultant and mentor to exotic veterinarians around the country (and soon the world) and speaking at several notable conferences.

Dr. Jamie Nenezian, DVM

Medical Director

Jamie Nenezian grew up right here in central Florida. After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology and Cell Science from the University of Florida, she went on to attend veterinary school at UF, graduating in 2016. She is the daughter of the one and only Dr. Parrott, and so she grew up and practices medicine with a strong interest in both primates and avian species, as well as other wildlife and exotics. While in veterinary school she was also a member of the student chapter of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care club. She completed a month long externship at The Raptor Center at University of Minnesota during her final year of veterinary school, giving her experience with avian orthopedic surgery. Her favorite animal is the opossum, and she lives at home with her dogs Abbey and Sheldon Cooper and cat Aussie. In her free time she enjoys CrossFit, movies, reading and the outdoors.

Dr. Walker Roberts, DVM

Dr. Roberts was born in Bedford, New Hampshire. She graduated  from West Virginia University in 2014, where she majored in Animal Sciences and had a minor in Biology. In 2018 Dr. Roberts graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. Her interests include avian medicine, acupuncture, and 3D modeling and printing.  Dr. Roberts spent most of her life studying avian medicine including client owned parrots to researching Andean Condors in Ecuador. She is currently studying to become an avian specialist. Outside of work, Dr. Roberts enjoys not being in the North, going for walks, and maintaining her flock of cockatiels and parakeets. She loves all things video games, costuming, and conventions.

Dr. Ricci May, DVM

Dr. Ricci May was born and raised in Nashville, TN. And yes, she has seen Reba at the dentist and Carrie Underwood at her prom dinner. Every summer that she can remember, her family drove to a new national park for wildlife watching and birding, sparking her interest in all things animal, especially birds. In 2014, Dr. May graduated from Cornell University with a BA in General Biological Sciences. While in college, she was actively involved in raptor care and educational programs, guide dog training, and horse-back riding. She worked as the pre-veterinary intern at the Nashville Zoo during her year off after college. In 2019, Dr. May graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. While in school, she was the avian Vice President of the avian, wildlife, and exotics program, and she helped organize a national veterinary student exotics symposium. Additionally, she traveled to 15 countries in Africa, Europe, and Asia with the International Veterinary Students’ Association. She spent a month in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe studying their vulture populations. Her externship time was spent at the University of Minnesota Raptor Center. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her cat, Layla, and her family in Orlando. Dr. May is excited to join the St. Charles team!

Dr. Kara Knight, DVM

Dr. Knight is a born and raised Floridian. She completed both her undergraduate and veterinary degrees at the University of Florida. Her love for small mammals began when she obtained her very first pets (ever!) as a junior in college. Two rescue guinea pigs (Trixie and Bella) sparked a lifelong love of all things tiny and squeeky. In addition to small mammal medicine, her professional interests include teaching and soft tissue surgery. She is a fur momma to two rambunctious cats – Persephone and Juno, as well as her current guinea pig – Spike (AKA the Lemon). On her off hours, she is gardening, working on her second black belt, and attending renaissance fairs.

Dr. Caitlyn Buerk, DVM

Dr. Buerk was born and raised in Central Florida. As a true native, she grew up going to the beach, working at her family’s citrus business, and spending time in nature. She graduated from Florida State University with her Bachelors in Biological Science and a minor in Environmental Science. She worked for two years as a veterinarian technician before starting vet school. She graduated from University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine with honors and received a certificate in Aquatic Animal Health Medicine. While in vet school she traveled to Ecuador to provide free veterinary care to dogs, cats, cows, and sheep in underserved communities. She completed a veterinary externship at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, where she helped rehabilitate sea turtles, birds of prey, and rattlesnakes. Dr. Buerk truly enjoys caring for all species of animals and is excited to be a part of the amazing team of animal care professionals at St. Charles. Outside of work, Dr. Buerk enjoys scuba diving, listening to a good podcast, playing soccer, and taking her dog Tucker on long walks (when it’s not too hot!).
